The Clarke County Development Foundation was established in June 2001 by the elected leadership of Clarke County- including the Clarke County Commission, the cities of Jackson and Thomasville, and the towns of Grove Hill, Coffeeville and Fulton. The development of the Foundation was a multi-phase action plan designed to incorporate the ideas and opportunities identified by Clarke County leaders into a successful countywide economic development effort.
This group be-came known as the Clarke County Economic Development Partner-ship. Members looked at various models of economic development and an exploratory committee visited Tupelo, Mississippi. From this visit came the recommendation that the Clarke County Development Foundation be formed based on the Tupelo Model. After a year of honing and crafting a mission statement, goals and objectives, the Foundation kicked off its membership drive in October 2003.
In the summer of 2006, the Development Foundation Director, Development Board of Directors and the Clarke County Commission met to discuss the need to divide the duties of the Clarke County Development Foundation and the Clarke County Economic Development Partnership due to the amount of work and challenges befalling the Development Foundation Director. Because of this divide the Development Foundation Board of Directors met to discuss the future of the Foundation. It was decided that the Foundation should continue on its own, however there was a need to re-write and re-structure the vision, mission and objectives of the Foundation.
